I love designing maps from different perspectives—especially drone views where you can see a part of the countryside and mark all the towns in the region. For this one, I made a hand-drawn map of the Wellington region using watercolours and digital colours, thinking about the Martinborough and Wellington markets. We usually go on the first Saturday of March, right around the Newtown Festival on Sunday. So we drive about eight hours from Mount Maunganui down to the lower part of the North Island, arriving in the vineyard region. We go out for a nice dinner with awesome local wine in Martinborough, then wake up early to set up our display and have a super busy day. It's a lovely small town, but on market day all the restaurants, bars and cafes are packed! It's a fantastic market! I hope you like this map as much as I do!
